Setup guides for every device

Most people just install our app and sign in — but if you prefer to configure things manually, or need to set up a router, every method is documented below.

Where do I get my configuration files or account details?

As soon as your payment is confirmed, we e-mail your account credentials, QR codes and ready-to-import configuration files for every protocol below. Nothing to generate by hand.

Windows 10 & 11

The Premier DNS app is the easiest way to connect — but you can also configure WireGuard or OpenVPN manually if you prefer.

Recommended: the Premier DNS app

  1. Download the app from the link in your welcome e-mail after checkout.
  2. Install & sign in with the account e-mail and password from your receipt.
  3. Pick a server from the map or the "Fastest" auto-select option.
  4. Click Connect — the kill switch and DNS leak protection are on by default.

Manual setup: WireGuard

  1. Install the official WireGuard for Windows client from wireguard.com.
  2. In your Premier DNS account, download the .conf file for the server you want.
  3. In WireGuard, choose Import tunnel(s) from file and select it.
  4. Click Activate to connect.

macOS (Apple silicon & Intel)

Use our native app for one-click protection, or set up WireGuard / IKEv2 manually.

Recommended: the Premier DNS app

  1. Download the app from your welcome e-mail and drag it into Applications.
  2. Sign in, allow the VPN configuration prompt macOS shows on first connect.
  3. Choose a server and click Connect.

Manual setup: WireGuard

  1. Install WireGuard from the Mac App Store.
  2. Download your .conf file from your account and import it into the app.
  3. Toggle the tunnel on in the WireGuard menu bar icon.

iOS & iPadOS

Available on the App Store — supports WireGuard and OpenVPN Connect profiles.

  1. Install the Premier DNS app from the App Store.
  2. Sign in with your account e-mail and password.
  3. When prompted, tap Allow to add the VPN configuration.
  4. Choose a server and tap Connect.
Tip: Enable "Connect on Untrusted Wi-Fi" in the app settings so Premier DNS activates automatically on public hotspots.

Android

Available on the Play Store — supports WireGuard and OpenVPN Connect profiles.

  1. Install the Premier DNS app from the Google Play Store.
  2. Sign in with your account e-mail and password.
  3. Accept the Android VPN permission prompt.
  4. Choose a server and tap Connect.
Tip: Enable "Always-on VPN" and "Block connections without VPN" in Android's network settings for kill-switch level protection.

Linux

Command-line setup using wg-quick (WireGuard) — works on virtually every distribution.

  1. Install WireGuard tools: sudo apt install wireguard (Debian/Ubuntu) or your distro's equivalent.
  2. Download your .conf file from your account and copy it to /etc/wireguard/premierdns.conf.
  3. Connect: sudo wg-quick up premierdns
  4. Disconnect: sudo wg-quick down premierdns
NetworkManager users: most desktop distributions can import the same .conf file directly via Settings → Network → VPN → Import from file.

Routers

Protect every device on your home network at once by configuring Premier DNS directly on a supported router firmware.

  1. Confirm your router runs DD-WRT, OpenWrt, pfSense or ASUSWRT-Merlin (or flash a supported firmware).
  2. Download the WireGuard .conf or OpenVPN .ovpn file for your chosen server from your account.
  3. In your router's admin panel, go to the VPN client section and import the file.
  4. Enable the VPN client and confirm your public IP has changed via any "what is my IP" site.
Note: Router VPN performance depends heavily on your router's CPU. For gigabit speeds, look for a router with AES-NI / WireGuard hardware acceleration.
